Fidelis Senior
“Prediction is very difficult, especially about the future.” – so said humorously Niels Bohr, one of the pioneers of the atomic model and well known to all my Chemistry students, I am sure!
I would certainly not have predicted back in 2013, when I first started working on the launch of the Cedars School, that 12 years later I would be here to see and to help in the next exciting chapter of PACT schools: the merger of our three schools, Oakwood, the Laurels and the Cedars into all-through co-ed school, Fidelis College.
It never ceases to amaze me how much has been achieved in all this time: a very close partnership with parents, an emphasis on the acquisition of virtue as the gateway to true happiness, our tutorial system, very high academic standards, excellent co-curricular offering and pastoral care… and all this imbued and permeated with perennial Catholic values making up a unique educational offering.
But that is not all. A rounded education also involves exposing our pupils to all the best that has been said, produced and written so that they come to appreciate by themselves all that is good, true and beautiful. We help our pupils to “see farther by standing on the shoulders of giants”, paraphrasing the famous quote of Isaac Newton.
It is the dedication and vision of many of our pioneering families and teachers that have brought us to where we are. But visionary leaders also need a strong and talented teaching faculty, and we have been blessed with many inspirational teachers who have helped to crystalise our educational ethos.
But life does not stand still. As Albert Einstein once quipped: “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.”
We are now embarking on this new phase of our history with full confidence that we are riding on very solid ground. Continuity is also of the essence. An experienced leadership under the helm of Mrs Maria Kemp, a talented and fully committed Staff, an exciting and ever-innovative educational project and financial backing makes the ideal mix for a very bright future at Fidelis College.

GCSE Option Choices
At Fidelis College, we provide a broad curriculum that goes beyond the bounds of the National Curriculum.
Pupils study core subjects (English, Maths, Religious Studies, and Science). For Science, pupils can choose Combined Science or Separate Science. Pupils also choose from a range of options.
Guidance is provided to all pupils in Year 9, and new pupils joining us in Year 10 are given support as well in deciding on the subjects they will choose.
As well as preparing for exams at the end of Year 11, pupils participate in a wide range of co-curricular activities, a varied and competitive sporting programme and our extensive volunteering opportunities.
